The article provides an overview of institutional changes and outlines new approaches that are being tested in the retail sector using the example of food products. Structural transformation concerns all processes, not only the internal organization of trade, but also the forms of interaction with suppliers of food products and their customers. The introduction of a platform type of interaction between producers and buyers has led to the spread of electronic forms of sale of products of farms and consumer cooperatives in large retail chains (Pyaterochka, Magnit) on the principle of "store within a store" in the regions. The Farmer's Island project, implemented with the support of the SME Corporation and regional authorities, is gaining popularity in the country's regions. In 2025, 92 "islands" were established in 36 regions, involving more than 700 small producers of agricultural products and ready-made food.
